MAXIMUM VERSATILITY AND FLEXIBILITY: EIGHT PICKUP COMBINATIONS, AND FIVE STRINGS, COVER THE FULL BASS SPECTRUM OF NOTES AND SOUNDS
These samples are from the Gibson EB Bass*, a solid-body powerhouse. This bass enhanced its two pickups with switchable coil taps, thus allowing eight unique bass sounds without any active electronics—from full and deep, to bright and lively. Each bass note is sampled individually, with its pitch “flattened” during the decay (using Celemony Melodyne) to counteract the pitch changes that occur during a physical string’s decay. This prevents beat frequencies with other instruments, which otherwise would make the low end less solid and tight. The samples are not looped, but decay naturally.
This instrument does not use switched multisamples. Instead, to avoid the sometimes abrupt sound of sample-switching, filter and amplitude synth modules are velocity-sensitive. The end result is an organic, dynamic sound that responds like a synth bass, but has the rich, warm sound quality of an electric bass. What’s more, these samples are recorded without compression or EQ, to provide users with maximum flexibility for their own projects.
With eight distinctive sounds, and a pitch range that extends down to low B, these 5-String Bass samples cover the entire spectrum of not only bass notes, but bass sounds.
